What Is Temporary Employment?
Euworkers is a way for employers to fill short-term gaps in the workforce. It is also a way for employees to gain experience in new industries and to build up their CV.
Temp workers are hired to fill in for employees that are absent, to perform tasks that require specialized skills that an employee doesn’t have, or for a trial period to see how well a candidate fits into a company’s culture before making them a permanent hire. Temporary workers are often hired by staffing agencies or by companies themselves directly.
Temporary Employment in Tech: Opportunities and Growth
For some, a career filled with temporary work is desirable because it offers flexibility and variety. However, for others the prospect of constantly switching jobs can be stressful and depressing. This is especially the case when the time between temp assignments is too short and it becomes difficult to maintain a steady income.
One theory suggests that temp jobs offer less security than full-time positions because they can be terminated more quickly, and employers may not commit as much to training because they know the role will not last. Another theory is that temp positions can be seen as a “desperate measure” and may signal a lack of commitment or ability, although this can also happen in permanent roles, and other types of employment statuses such as unemployment, education or parental leave are likely to have the same effect (Mooi-Reci & Dekker, 2016). In addition, many people in the gig economy do not report their earnings, which could mean that they are underreporting their income.
